Wanda Sykes: Sick & Tired - 3 Stars (Good)
After a Wanda Sykes comedy routine live for the first time, you may be asking yourself, "How a college graduate to a safe position with the National Security Agency could degenerate into a foul-mouthed, unladylike Joker without job security.
Then again, one could quickly see that you are just listening and enjoying the most original, funniest comedienne inAmerica today. Currently there are no second Wanda Sykes, if you want uninhibited, pure laughter. If you can not filter out the language and then in the right perspective, your experience will be slightly less funny. Wanda Sykes do not use the F-word.
Sykes is the counterpart to Chris Rock, the most original, funniest male comedian in America today. Both Sykes and rock have something in common: their humor is a nasty way of exposing the truth of our lives. It can take at home, so that you closeno other alternative than to laugh.
Is between the F-word, sexual images, and raw emotion, Sykes actually surrender some necessary social commentary for ugly underbelly of society.
How did the daughter of an army colonel father and mother, a banker earning a marketing degree from Hampton University and at the end in the National Security Agency? Who cares? It is important that an appearance on a Washington, DC talent showcase convinced that comedy was her true calling Wanda.
She got a breakOpening for Chris Rock, and was soon hired to write "The Chris Rock Show," and used the opportunity to win a letter to Emmy. The win at the American Comedy Award for outstanding lead female stand-up comic in 2001. The rest is history, including another Emmy.
Two presentations will be a quick aware Wanda's cheeky, squeaky delivery and sharp tongue. The first is "Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied", when Wanda takes on stock exchanges, national security and some CatholicPriest among others. The second is "Wanda Sykes: Sick & Tired" at Seattle's Moore Theater, when Wanda makes strange truth and common sense into a thought-provoking humor.
Please do not buy or rent one of these presentations, if you're willing to laugh so hard that you could fall out of your chair. If laughter truly is the best medicine, then as Dr. Wanda Sykes can address.
